William Joseph Sirridge, born on March 1, 1942, peacefully passed away at home on Tuesday, October 31, 2023. Born to Elizabeth and John Sirridge, he was the eldest of six boys. He is survived by his wife Nancy, daughter Michele, son David (Lisa), son Paul (Jennifer), and daughter Julie (Tony). Bill leaves behind twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Family was the cornerstone of his life. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother John, and grandson Tristan.
Bill spent his early years in Kansas City, Kansas, attending St. Peter’s Catholic School and Bishop Ward, where he met his beloved wife of 61 years, Nancy Breitenstein Sirridge. He was an exceptionally skilled mechanic and owned his own service stations before joining the Kansas City Kansas Fire Department as a mechanic. He enjoyed accompanying on calls and assisting his community.
In 1993, Bill moved to Basehor, Kansas, where he lived for the next 30 years, building strong connections with his neighbors, especially Aaron and Adriane Brandenburg. Bill was not only an avid fisherman and hunter but also a general jack of all trades. He loved working on cars and micromanaging any project he was within 5 feet of, whether the guidance was requested or not. He enjoyed competition barbecuing and spending time outdoors, often with a cigar. A stranger did not exist to him as he loved talking to any and everyone and had a story specifically for them. In his later years, he often said “the only thing I can do anymore is talk and grow hair”. Anyone who met him can attest to this.
Bill will be missed by many. He was indeed a character and always had advice for any situation. Our family will not be the same without him, we will miss his “Billisims.” As those made an indelible impression on us and will bring a chuckle to us forever. His beloved dog Keisha will miss him and gave him a lot of joy in his last year.
