It is with profound sadness to announce the passing of, Una Mae (Bachelor) Brzon, on September 2, 2023, with family by her side.
Una Mae was born May 15,1938. Una was the oldest child of Albert and La Vange (LaVitt) Bachelor.
Una grew up in Belleville Kansas. Una was the senior “Sweetheart Queen” and a cheerleader. Una Mae, had a job in high school as a soda jerk, but the biggest job she had was keeping a watchful eye on her younger brother, John. After graduating Belleville High School she went to William Woods College to receive an associates of arts degree. Una then attended Kansas State University where she received her bachelor of science degree, as well.
Una Mae, went on to teach in St. Charles, Missouri; Superior Public Schools in Superior, Nebraska; and Sacred Heart School in Larned, Kansas. In addition, she taught Special Education at the Larned State Hospital in Larned, Kansas. She was a member of P.E.O., Shakespeare club, a honorary member of both PHI THETA KAPPA and PHI BETA.
In 1975 she met and married George Brzon. Together the family consisted of 8 children. She took great pride in running the kids around and attending their sporting/school events. Una loved to have a nice yard and would spend time mowing the yard and keeping the pool nice. Una and George were known to have hosted many pool parties. Una enjoyed hosting gatherings, particularly Thanksgiving. Una enjoyed that so much she managed the Belleville Country Club, where she was in charge of all the parties and functions. Una Mae was well known for having a drawer full of candy at all times.
In 1984, George, Una Mae and the candy drawer moved to Kansas City. Una took a job at Jennings Tree Service and later with The KU Book Store.
Una took great delight in hosting holiday dinners. She would ask that the children be with their spouses/ families on Christmas and on the second weekend of January she would have her family Christmas in an event space. This consisted of a full weekend of food and drinks, most of all, love and laughter.
Una Mae loved to bake (best known for cookies and sheet cake), dance, drink martinis, Baileys and Carmel Frappes. She enjoyed changing the decorations outside to reflect the upcoming holidays. She took great pride in her decorations and enjoyed when people stopped to admire them. She never forgot a birthday and always had a dinner / luncheon for that special persons day. In later years she would send a mass text to the kids reminding them, to send a birthday wish.
In the last 4 years of life, Una Mae, George and the candy drawer, moved to Brookdale Independent living. Together they enjoyed having the children, grandchildren and friends visit.
Una Mae is preceded by her parents, son Mark and daughter Jan.
Una Mae is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, George; a brother John Bachelor; her daughter Brenda (Terry); sons Greg (Karla), Jac (Paula), Brad, Jamie (Kim), and Matt; 18 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and 2 nieces.
All whom she loved so dearly.
Even when my grandchildren are not in my arms, on my lap or in my home they are in my heart and will stay there forever.
