Song Ying Xiong, 77, passed away unexpectedly on September 17, 2023 in Kansas City, Kansas. He was born on November 3, 1945 in Laos and married Phoua Vang in March 1966. The family moved to the United States in 1976 following the end of the Vietnam War seeking political asylum as refugees. Song and his family were sponsored by Faith Lutheran Church to come to Jeffersonville, Indiana. Eventually, his family settled in Kansas City, Kansas in 1980. Song worked at Harlan Manufacturing for many years until his retirement in 2010 and was a founding member of New Life Fellowship Church in Kansas City, Kansas.
Song worked hard his entire life. He built a life and a family through his hard work and dedication. In Laos, he fought for The United States in the Vietnam War in The Secret War in Laos. After coming to the United States, Song learned English and made a new life in America. Song served The Hmong community for decades by helping other Hmong families in many ways. Whether it was helping to translate for someone, giving counsel and encouragement or providing financial support, Song had a desire to help others succeed. He emphasized the value of education and encouraged others to have faith in Jesus Christ. Throughout his life, he served in many roles within the church as an elder, teacher, church leader and friend. Song will truly be missed by those whom he has helped and supported including friends and family.
Song is preceded in death by his father Cher Vang Xiong, mother Seng Vang Xiong, brother Chia Chang Xiong and sister Nou Yang, son Bee Xiong, daughter Lia Xiong and daughter Yu Xiong.
Song leaves behind five children and eleven grandchildren: Tou Vu Xiong and wife Pang Xiong with five children Sophia, Noah, Madelyn, Luke and Ken; Jack Xiong; Sarad and husband Mike Yang with Elle and Ian Yang; Sandy and husband Ly Her with Emery and Elise Her; May Lee Heu and husband Jesse Heu with Hudson and Eliana Heu. In addition, he leaves behind two brothers Say Pao Xiong (See), Nou Yee Xiong (Ka Ying), two sisters Youa Xiong, Sua Vang (Wa Vang) and many nephews and nieces.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Olathe Christian Church on October 7-8, 2023 from 5:00PM-7:00PM. Burial Services will be at Chapel Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens on October 9, 2023 from 10:00AM-11:00AM. Interment to immediately follow.
