Ruth (Refugio) Santoyo Hernandez passed away peacefully at home at the age of 83. She was born on New Year's Day to Jesus Santoyo and Carmen Castro Santoyo.
Ruth was a true survivor. She beat lung cancer nine years ago. Born at home, she was already fighting for her life at just one day old, requiring a blood transfusion and relying on the only source of heat throughout the night. Her doctor said that if she made it through the night, she would be okay – and she did.
A single mother to five children, Ruth worked tirelessly, holding two jobs at a time. She worked at the post office until the department closed, then at Bethany Hospital for 20 years until it closed down. She continued working at JC Harmon until her retirement.
Ruth was preceded in death by her son Frankie Hernandez, and her mother Carmen Goslin and grandson Michael Hernandez, and granddaughters Kassandra Montoya, Monica Burger, Kaylee Burger and grandson Dominic Garcia. Sisters Juanita Santoyo, Carmen Quirarte, Betty Goslin and Elizabeth Garcia Florence Morton and two infant brothers. She is survived by her children Michele Hernandez, Carmela White (Brian), Paulette Peasley (Kenny), John (JJ), Hernandez(Patty), and Deborah Lane. Ruth all so consider Rosie Arredondo-Mace (Larry), Yolanda Castilleja (Tim) Steve Garcia (Annamarie) Carol Bahr (Jay) close and dear to her heart.
Ruth was deeply loved by her nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Her guiding philosophy was simple yet profound: "Take one day at a time. Tomorrow, you will feel better."
