Roy V. Cox

March 29, 1940 — October 6, 2024

Shawnee, Kansas

Roy V Cox, died Sunday afternoon, October 6, 2024, under the watchful care of his family and Crossroads Hospice & Palliative Care, Lenexa KS, after a good and encouraging day . He was born on March 29, 1940 in Kansas City, MO the son of Muriel ‘Billy’ Cox and Evelyn (Fisher) Cox.

As an only child, Roy was fascinated by all things fast and well designed. He made good use of that keen interest by becoming the first black Senior Specifications Engineer for General Motors home office in Warren, MI and Kansas City Fairfax Plant. Roy even redesigned the wheel by reducing lug nuts from 6 to 5. He retired after 26 years of service.

Roy was also known for the fastest pitcher’s arm in the Sedalia, MO baseball leagues, where he grew up. He tried out to become a player with the Kansas City Monarchs. The coach was impressed by his talents, but encouraged him to study at the university first, then return to play after he obtained his degree.

At Lincoln University in Jefferson City, MO he met his sweet heart, Mary Robinson. After graduating, they were united in holy matrimony and remained so for 62 years.

While attending university, Mary began studying the Bible and introduced Roy to his heavenly Father. Both Roy and Mary became avid students of the Bible and symbolized their dedications to the True God, Jehovah on August 25, 1961 in Milwaukee Wisconsin. Together, they shared truths they came to understand with the help of Jehovah’s Witnesses (www.jw.org) and encouraged many to ‘taste and see that Jehovah is good’ (Ps 34:8). So, Roy began pitching for Jehovah God the Almighty. He helped form new congregations and served in 14 different congregations with his family in Kansas, Missouri, Michigan and Ecuador S.A.. Since our Heavenly Father remembers our works, Roy encouraged many to continue reaching their fullest potential and find joy in serving others (1 Cor. 15:58), ‘knowing that our labor is not in vain’.

We are comforted knowing he is resting and awaiting his awakening on a paradise earth (Rev. 21:3,4,5). Roy will be welcomed by Mary Cox and his two lovely daughters Sharon Cox and Mary Kay Cox, of the home; along with many relatives and a great crowd of good friends that could easily fill a stadium. Private family service.
