Octavio Viveros, 98 of Mission, Kansas passed away peacefully on July 30, 2024.
Octavio was born on May 22,1926 in Kansas City, Kansas. He was the fourth of five children of Jose and Natividad Viveros. His father passed away when Octavio was nine years old and his family moved to Morelia, Michoacan in Mexico when he was in his teen years.
He met the love of his life Esther Medina, while in Mexico, and they were married in 1955. Octavio and Esther moved to the Kansas City area where they raised their eight children in Roeland Park, Kansas with many friends nearby. They lived within walking distance of St. Agnes Church and grade school and Bishop Miege High School, which is where the family spent much of their time. Octavio was a devout Catholic and was active in the St. Agnes Catholic Parish. He was a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the Cursillo's, he was a lay minister, an usher and a Eucharistic Minister for the church.
Octavio retired from General Motors after 26 years. Following retirement, he more fully enjoyed his hobbies of travel, music, watching sports and caring for his lawn and roses. He also enjoyed exercising and swimming at the Woodside Racquet Club in Westwood, Kansas where many of their neighbors spent time together. The year 2017 brought about a big change in their lives. After 53 years in Roeland Park, Octavio and his wife, Esther moved to Welstone at Mission Crossing in Mission, Kansas, an independent living community, where they made many more new friends and were involved in new activities.
Octavio most enjoyed hosting his family at his home and spending time making memories with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved holidays together and visits with family and friends and all the celebrations that come with being the head of a large family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Natividad Viveros and by all four of his siblings: Jose, Aurora, Tony and Celia, and by his son, Octavio Viveros Jr. and his daughter-in-law Pamela Growe.
He is survived by his wife, Esther and seven children: Esther Viveros, Mary Soots, Sylvia (Kurt) Gruenbacher, Theresa (John) Whiteside, Martin Viveros, Rose (Tom) Rheinberger, Christine (Willie Halliburton) Viveros as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
