Nancy Uphaus

Nancy (Fangman) Uphaus, 75, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Cedarhurst Senior Living in Topeka. She was born on June 19, 1949 to Leonard and Anna (Niekamp) Hammes in Axtell, Kansas. She graduated from B & B High School in 1967. 

Nancy married Eugene Fangman and they had four sons. They were later divorced. In June of 1996, she married Robert Uphaus and moved to Topeka, Kansas. She worked for SRS in Disability Determination for four years, and for the State Treasurer of Kansas for ten years, retiring in 2010.

Nancy enjoyed traveling, going on several trips to Las Vegas and nearby casinos, as well as a trip to Europe with family and friends. She loved cooking and baking, and she made the best apple pie! She attended as many of her grandchildren’s activities as possible.

Nancy was an incredible and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She cared deeply for others, always putting the wants and needs of others before her own. 

 Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Clayton Hammes. 

Nancy is survived by her husband, Robert of Topeka; her sons, Gary (DeeAnn) Fangman of Seneca, Brian (Denise) Fangman of Keats, Kevin Fangman of Manhattan, and Randy Fangman of Topeka; her step-daughters, Kristin (Jeff) Duncan and Sara Uphaus, both of Topeka; her granddaughter, Nicole Fangman of Topeka; step-grandchildren, Joshua Duncan, Skylar Duncan, Mena DiMarzio, and Derek DiMarzio, all of Topeka; and her sister-in-law, Patricia Hammes of Topeka.

Cremation is planned. A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church, 2014 NW 46th Street in Topeka. Prior to the mass, a visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m., followed by a rosary being prayed at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment will follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Topeka, Kansas.  We will meet at the cemetery.  There will be no formal funeral procession. 

 Memorials may be sent in care of the family, to be designated later.
