Melvin (Mel) Doyle Jewett was born September 30, 1934, to John J. and Phylis E. Jewett in Hutchinson, Kansas.  He was a lifetime resident of Kansas.  He passed away January 26, 2024 at Olathe Hospice House, Olathe, Kansas.

Mel graduated in 1960 from Kansas State University as a Civil Engineer.  He became a Licensed Engineer in the State of Kansas in 1963.  He retired as a Supervisory Environmental Engineer after 38 years with the Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District-40 total years of government service.

On September 11, 1955, he married his first wife Mildred (Millie) R. Enegren.  To this union 3 children were born; Michelle, Mitchell and Marshall. On February 02, 1989, he married his second wife, Deanna R. Gloria.  She preceded him in death on June 08, 2015.  He was also preceded in death by his first wife Mildred Storment; his sister Elinor Kent; his brother-in-law Kenneth Kent; his daughter-in-law Patty Jewett; a stepson Mark Turley and a stepdaughter Sherrie Pruett Wolfe.

Mel was very proud of his three children and his exteneded family.  He is survived by his children; Michelle Kliewer (Mike), Mitchell Jewett and Marshall Jewett (Melanie); his stepchildren Joe Ochoa (Gina), John Ochoa (Julie) and Tanya Gloria; and by many grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He is also survived by his brother Richard Jewett (Lucille). 

His memberships included the National Society of Professional Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers, Missouri Society of Professional Engineers, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Gold Wing Touring Association, Harley Owners Group, Top Railers Square Dance Club, Prairie Baptist Church of Prairie Village, Kansas, The Jewett Family of America and the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, New Mexico Chapter.
