Overland Park

Lois Wright Tosh, born April 4, 1928, in Kingsport, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025, at Village Shalom in Overland Park, Kansas.

A loving wife, mother, and friend, Lois generously shared her love of God, family, and the beauty in the world through her art.

Lois grew up in the Beechwood and Bloomingdale neighborhoods of Kingsport alongside her brother and four sisters. After graduating from Sullivan High School, she worked at Tennessee Eastman Company as a teletype operator, saving diligently to pursue her passion for art. She married Dr. Paul Tosh, an optometrist, on July 7, 1951, and together they built a life filled with love, creativity, the outdoors, and faith.

After retiring in 1985, Lois and Paul traveled extensively across the United States in their Avion trailer, visiting all fifty states before settling in Tucson, Arizona. There they were active in square dancing and ballroom dancing, and cycling. Lois continued her sketching and painting and mastered the technique of dry brush painting on ceramics. Her ceramic pieces sold in several venues in the Tucson area and found homes worldwide, including Japan, Germany, and Holland.

In 2014, a year after Paul passed away, Lois experienced some health issues and moved to the Kansas City area to be near her son. She remained an active artist and beloved member of her community at The Welstone at Mission Crossing and Village Shalom. She became known for her greeting cards featuring flowers and birds and for her scripture bookmarks, all of which she generously shared with everyone she encountered. In May 2024, she proudly held her first solo art show at The Epsten Gallery at Village Shalom.

Lois was predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years, Dr. Paul Andrew Tosh; her parents, Gaither Jefferson Wright, and Lillie Mae Wright; her brother, Blaine Wright; and two sisters, Hazel Surgeoner and Avis Phillips. She is survived by her two children, Melisa Tosh Scarlott (David) and Paul Andrew Tosh II (Luci); two sisters, Dorotha Jean England, and Maxine "Sunny" Hittinger; numerous nieces and nephews; and countless friends.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Village Shalom for their compassionate care.

A graveside service will be held at Greenfield Highland Cemetery, 215 Hatcher Street, Greenfield, Tennessee 38230, on February 15, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., with a weather contingency at Williams Funeral Home, 2209 W. Meridian St., Greenfield, TN 38230.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Village Shalom; Memo Note: Epsten Gallery, address: Village Shalom, Philanthropy Dept., 5500 W. 123rd St., Overland Park, KS 66209.
