John T. Spies

JOHN SPIES

John was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on May 4th, 1940 to Earl and Frances Spies. He passed from this life on October 2nd, 2024. He graduated from Technical High School in Springfield and attended Metropolitan Junior College in Kansas City, Missouri while living with his aunt, Louise, and her husband Ben Sedgwick. He served in the US Air Force, stationed in Greenland as a Physical Therapy Specialist. 

After returning from Greenland, he met and married his wife Marie in July of 1967. John was a medical and surgical equipment and supply sales representative for 38 years. He loved dogs, enjoyed gardening, music, ballroom dancing as well as travel to Europe, Hawaii, and many visits to the Caribbean on cruises with Marie and fellow ballroom dancers. John was a great handyman and a sweet and fun father. He had a unique, entertaining and endearing manner. John was a longtime member of the Church of the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Overland Park where he was a collection counter and a member of the Sunshine Club. 

He is survived by his wife Marie, daughters Karen and Debbie (Chris); grandchildren Zach (Nancy), Tara, and Sommi, and great-grandson Zachariah, as well as his nephews David, Vinnie, and Gary Settembre. John was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Happy memories of him will help to console us.
