Frances Bennett-Cowell

April 13, 1944 — June 22, 2024

Overland Park

Fran Bennett Cowell, 80, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly, but quietly, in her sleep on the morning of June 22, 2024, at the Vineyard House of SeniorCare Homes, with her loving daughter by her side.

Fran was born April 13, 1944, in Kansas City, Kansas. She was the ninth of ten children of Bruce and Mildred (Mason) Mantooth.

Fran grew up in the Argentine area, and graduated Argentine High School in 1962. She worked most of her life as an Executive Secretary for multiple oil companies and then another company until she retired in 2006.

As a single parent, Frans greatest accomplishment was her daughter and her grandchildren and her son in law whom she was very proud of. That was shown by often prioritizing their needs well above her own. Fran had the biggest heart and the most infectious smile. Fran was fearless and independent, yet sensitive and incredibly compassionate. Fran was very quick witted as well. She loved dancing, cooking and gardening (Gardenia was her favorite flower) and was well known to be quite the perfectionist when it came to her home and yard. It always looked like it should be in a Home and Garden magazine.

Like most people in Kansas, she was definitely an avid “Chiefs” fan and had season tickets for many years. Fran loved the color green, just like the color of her eyes. Fran was well known to be an impeccable dresser and never left the house without her makeup and hair done and let’s not forget her nails, Pompii Purple at all times.

Fran enjoyed her trips to Colorado, Ozarks and most of all, the times she went to Branson and Amana colonies with her sister.

Most of all, Fran loved her quality time with her grandchildren. She proudly doted over and spoiled every chance she got.

In 2022, Fran went to the Senior Care Home (Vineyard House), where she thrived and enjoyed making new friends. They referred to her as “Franna Banana”. They even made a “Fran” assistant name tag for her to wear. She truly loved that.

Fran is survived by her loving daughter and son in law, Tammy and LeLand and her cherished grandchildren, Brady, Chaney and Jordan Rowse, two sisters and many extended-family members, all whom she loved dearly.

Her loyal and faithful canine companion, Sissy (who misses her immensely), has stayed behind with Tammy and Leland.

Fran touched so many peoples lives. Her infectious smile and laugh will live on forever. We take great comfort knowing Fran is now at peace surrounded by light. To say she will be missed is an understatement.

The family would like to thank the staff at Vineyard House and KC Hospice, for their love and kindness they gave to Fran. They gave her dignity and respect and treated all of us with compassion. They were our family’s angel of mercy those final days. Your kindness does not go unnoticed and will never be forgotten.

The family appreciates your support during this difficult time and asks that in lieu of flowers, to make a contribution in Frans name to:
