Douglas Steven Barrington, age 69, of Topeka, Kansas, sadly passed away on July 13th, 2024 after a courageous and hard fought battle with a blood cancer called myelofibrosis.

Doug was born February 18, 1955 to Joseph and Katherine Barrington in Kansas City, Missouri. After Doug graduated from Shawnee Mission South High School in Overland Park in 1973, he went on to study Marketing and Advertising at the University of Kansas where he was a defensive tackle on the football team and record discus thrower on the track team which qualified him for the US Olympic Team.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Journalism, he started his professional career with the Gannett Outdoor Group in the Kansas City area and relocated to Chicago and then Denver. His advertising and sales skills earned him many accolades and top sales awards with United Artist, Cable Adnet and Tele-Communications, Inc to include the top sales person in North America. Doug moved to Topeka to become the Sales Manager of the CBS affiliate, WIBW in 1997. He then became the Sales Manager of the local PBS station, KTWU. He joined his wife, Cheri, in Real Estate in 1999 where together they became Team Barrington. Doug served as the association's president and was awarded Realtor of the Year in 2018 and received the President's Award for his outstanding leadership in the real estate profession in 2019. He also served as the president of the local Rotary Club where he was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow distinction by the international rotary foundation for his extensive and compassionate service to the Topeka community.

In 1992, Doug met his wife, Cheri in Dallas, Texas where they first teamed up together to volunteer with the North Texas Special Olympians where Doug offered his expertise as the track coach. They were married in 1996 and have two sons together.

Doug was predeceased by his father and mother. He is survived by his wife, (Cheri) two sons, Dylan(Kacie) and a grandson (Teddy) and Brandon and a granddaughter (Bailey), a sister, Kathy Bagby and several nephews and nieces, brother in laws and cousins.

Services will be held Saturday, July 20th, 2024 at Fellowship Bible Church in Topeka. Family greeting will be at 9:30am with services at 10:30am. 


The family requests that in lieu of flowers that a contribution be made to the newly created Doug Barrington Foundation through CNB Bank in Topeka. This foundation is created to continue Doug's legacy of compassionate giving to his community for the less fortunate and keep his love for giving forever alive in his name.
