Cooper Wayne Wright, beloved son, brother and friend, died unexpectedly of an overdose on Feb. 1, 2024, at age 30. We share the cause of death in hopes that it might save others from the heartache we are experiencing.
Cooper never quit being the kind and loveable person that his friends and family had always known him. He was genuinely interested in people and could make even strangers feel comfortable in his presence. He was able to use those skills working as a para in schools with special education students.
Cooper attended Center School District from kindergarten through graduation in 2012. Being 6’ 6’’ tall, people assumed he played basketball, but the drum line was his true love. He played four years in high school and one year in college at the University of Central Missouri. Cooper lettered in soccer in high school. He was an Eagle Scout representing Troop 46. He graduated from the University of Missouri in 2017. Cooper was an avid chess player and he enjoyed producing music beats.
He is survived by his parents, Fred and Nancy Wright, brother Cordell Wright, sister Erin Wright (Graham), nephew Nico and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation is Friday, Feb. 9, 2024, from 4-6 pm. The Memorial Service is Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024 at 10:30 am. Both will be at Crossroads Church, 7917 Main St., Kansas City, MO.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hillcrest Transitional Housing or First Call Alcohol/Drug Prevention & Recovery.
