Carolyn Virginia Peterson
Carolyn Virginia (Brite) Peterson, Bonner Springs, died May 4, 2023 at the home of her daughter Sandy, at the age 85 after a long illness.
Mrs. Peterson was born to William Byron Brite, Sr. and Margaret Mary (Emhoff) Brite on August 12, 1937 in Kansas City, Mo.
She attended St. Joseph Catholic School, Shawnee until moving to the farm in Gardner her Senior year. She graduated from Gardner High School in 1955.
She married Paul L Peterson in May of 1957 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Gardner Kansas. He preceded her in death on October 31, 2000 after 43 years of marriage.
She was a Rural Letter Carrier in Bonner Springs for 24 years, retiring in 1997. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church Bonner Springs/Shawnee most of her life. Moving to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Tonganoxie in her later years. She was also a member of the National and Kansas Rural Letter Carriers Association, where she served as both a National and State Delegate for many years.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Mary Margaret Cisper; her brother, William (Billy) Brite, Jr.; her granddaughter Michelle Schermerhorn and Great Grandson Matthew Hennessy.
She is survived by her children, Michael Peterson, Bonner Springs; Rebecca (Rick) Schlagel, Bonner Springs; David (Carol) Peterson, Kansas City, Ks; Mark (Paula) Peterson, Bonner Springs; Peggy Peterson, Tonganoxie; and Sandy (Chip) Saultz, Bonner Springs. Two brother’s Charles F. Brite (Donna) and Richard E. (Gene) Brite (Gerry Sue); 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren. Along with lifetime friends and traveling companions George and Virginia Warren and best friend and sister in law Mary (DeGrande) Peterson.
Visitation will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1100 West Street, Tonganoxie, Ks. 66086. The rosary will be recited at 5:30 on May 9th and visitation to follow from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on May 10th at Sacred Heart Church, Tonganoxie, Kansas.
Burial will be at Gates of Heaven Cemetery, Kansas City, Ks.

The Family would like to thank all of the Caregivers that so lovingly took care of Carolyn over the last two years, especially Barbara Thornton who has been with her from the beginning as well as all of those associated with KC. Hospice for their loving care not only to Carolyn but to the family as well.
